This course is designed for people who want a more intensive programme of study. In addition to the 18 hours of General English you will have an extra 5 hours tuition per week choosing from a range of options which will include:

  • General English Communication Option - this popular option typically includes the development of listening and speaking skills by means of role-play and discussion. It is also likely to include practice in social and conversational English, colloquial and idiomatic English.
  • Communication Skills for Business - equally suitable for both pre-service and early in-service students with an interest in business. Here again you will be able to develop your listening and speaking skills but this time it will happen in a business context. You will have the chance to improve your skills for meetings, negotiations, interviews, telephoning, etc., and, of course, build that business vocabulary!
  • IELTS (Cambridge ESOL) Preparation Option – this is the option for you if you are considering doing a university or college course in an English speaking country. The course will improve your general English skills and also prepare you to take the IELTS. IELTS = International English Language Testing System. IELTS tests can be taken locally.
  • TOEIC Preparation Option – a suitable test if you are living or working in an English Language environment = Test of English for International Communication. We are a TOEIC test centre.
  • Cambridge Examination Preparation Options
(not available from mid-June to early September.) Examination Preparation for Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE. (January to March (not CPE), March to June & September to December).

In addition to these options we often offer additional options according to both season and demand. Typical examples are:

  • Sports Options - a popular summer pursuit but with a serious educational content. With the help of some of our resident sports loving teachers you too will be able to talk in English about the complex rules of cricket, tennis and soccer. Learning by doing!
  • Literature Option – for fans of English and American Literature.
  • Pop Music Option - explore the history of pop in English and improve your vocabulary, grammar and colloquial English by singing along with your music-loving, guitar playing teachers.
  • English Culture and Traditions - while you are in England this is an ideal opportunity to learn more about the people who surround you and their customs. It all helps to promote international understanding and some of the things you will learn are quite fascinating!
